CREATIEF
Studies on the opportunities and risks of deep borehole disposal of heat-generating radioactive waste and spent fuel elements
The CREATIEF project conducted in-depth examinations of the opportunities and risks associated with the deep borehole disposal option (3000 m to 5000 m) for high-level radioactive waste from a technical and safety perspective. It particularly focused on analyzing and evaluating the assumptions and boundary conditions in current studies and research projects abroad and domestically. Potential deficiencies were identified, especially concerning the extent to which current studies provide a solid technical and scientific examination to assess the technical and predominantly safety-related feasibility. For identified potential weaknesses in assumptions, boundary conditions, and the technical concept, improvements and solution approaches were developed wherever possible. This involved conducting a SWOT analysis.
