ISIBEL-II

Review and evaluation of the toolkit for the safety assessment of repositories for high-level radioactive waste (HAW)

The work initiated during Phase 1 of the ISIBEL project on safety and safety justification concepts for HAW repositories in salt formations was continued and deepened during Phase II. A comprehensive national peer review of the ISIBEL FEP catalog was conducted by four research institutions (TU Clausthal, FZK-INE, FZJ, and Pangeo Hannover), the results were discussed, and the FEP catalog was revised. Furthermore, the demonstration and assessment of the isolation condition 'Safe Encapsulation,' the methodology for deriving reference scenarios, and the handling of uncertainties were discussed and described.
