MONTANARA

Development of monitoring concepts based on safety and verification concepts, as well as derivation of decision criteria and response options

In the final report of the MONTANARA project, you can expect an initial overview of monitoring in an international context, as well as the framework for monitoring in Germany. Following this, proposals are presented on how a monitoring concept can be developed in connection with a safety justification for a high-level radioactive waste repository. These proposals are complemented by examples of monitoring concepts specifically focusing on geotechnical barriers. Furthermore, there is a discussion on the use of monitoring results in decision-making processes and trust-building, considering both the opportunities and limitations of monitoring.

The project was conducted in close cooperation with the European collaborative project on monitoring, 'MODERN2020', which focused on monitoring strategies, monitoring technologies, and the potential involvement of external stakeholders.
