TREND
Further development of concepts for the transport and storage technology of final disposal containers
For the disposal of high-level radioactive waste in a repository mine, various options are being discussed in Germany: disposal in horizontal drifts, in vertical boreholes, in horizontal boreholes, or in horizontal short boreholes. In the R&D project TREND, the necessary technology for realizing these options has been developed or further developed at a conceptual level. In addition to considering the experience from demonstration tests, this also includes incorporating current requirements for the technology. The disposal processes were animated using the developed CAD models. This provides a uniform planning basis for the disposal concepts, enabling transferability to all host rocks.
